BIG LEAGUE BASEBALLS.com | MUSEUM OF BASEBALLS | WORLD SERIES | 2001 World Series Ball 1 (Canceled for Redesign)
About the Ball: The "Canceled" 2001 Rawlings Official World Series Baseball. This ball was originally produced for the 2001 series, and then replaced after the 9/11/2001 tragedy and attacks by the American Flag style bunting logo seen here.
Major League Baseball decided to change to the more patriotic logo, and also added the 2001 World Series Ceremonial 1st Pitch baseball, pictured here.
UPDATE: We have recently learned that this "Canceled" version still ended up in game play, according to a forum member and the Baseball Hall of Fame. So it's apparent now that some of these older versions did in fact end up in the 2001 World Series. How many games and how many balls were actually used? We cannot know for sure.
If you're considering purchasing a ball listed as "Game-used" from the 2001 World Series, or any event, we strongly recommend using your own judgement and demanding concrete evidence, i.e. MLB Authentication, LOA/COA or letter of provenance.
As always, Caveat emptor - Buyer Beware. Any unused MLB ball can easily be made to look game-used.
