BIG LEAGUE BASEBALLS.com | MUSEUM OF BASEBALLS | MISCELLANEOUS, MISPRINTS & PROTOTYPES | 1989 World Series BLACK-Stamped Misprint
About the Ball: The 1989 World Series ball should be stamped with blue ink. This is black ink, therefore it's either a misprint or a prototype. Everything else remains the same.
What's even more unusual is this ball was purchased as "used." Now we doubt it made into a World Series game, but it clearly shows the umpire's mud rub and possible practice use. It's likely that baseballs like these weren't earmarked for game play, but were at least suitable for batting practice and warmups before Series' games, or perhaps Spring Training and regular season batting practice the following year.
