About the Ball: Rawlings offered these leather Signature Series baseballs* for autograph collectors as a more economical alternative to the Official Game Ball. Big League Baseballs does not condone unofficial baseballs for autographs under any citcumstances, but at least these are leather and supposedly do not bleed when signed.

*This addition to the Museum of Baseballs is an exception, only for educational purposes.

BLB 2012 Rawlings Gold Glove Awards Baseball (RAWLINGS CORPORATE) BLB 2012 Rawlings Gold Glove Awards Baseball

About the Ball: Extremely rare - the 2012 Gold Glove Awards Official Baseball. The most perfect leather you'd see on any ball is wrapped around these 2012 keepsakes, as well as the almost identical 2011 versions of Gold Glove Awards Ceremony baseballs. They saved the best of the best for these very special baseballs, and the stamping is perfect in placement and crispness.

This ball is extremely rare, to obtain one, you had to be there, and even then, you probably had to be pretty important. Not many of these made it to collectors, if any. In fact, it's the only one I've seen unsigned, and one of the only ones that made it out to the public (huge tip of the cap to Rawlings for making this available!)

Rawlings 2011 Gold Glove Awards Dinner Baseball Version 2 (RAWLINGS CORPORATE) Rawlings 2011 Gold Glove Awards Dinner Baseball Version 2

About the Ball: We're very lucky to have added this ball to the Museum of Baseballs (and to my personal collection). This is the second version of 2011 Gold Glove Awards baseballs we've seen. The other more common version, with all red laces, is pictured in this gallery.

This version features the common gold laces and new -- for 2011 -- gold stamping. I believe these were used for signings with award winners, or perhaps given to Rawlings and MLB execs and other dignitaries. Just speculating.

The other version was provided to attendees and found in gift bags at the 2011 Gold Glove Awards Dinner. It contains a list of AL and NL Gold Glove winners on each side panel, where as this version is blank.

Additional differences - this version is clearly MLB Baseball grade leather, whereas the more common red laced version is a bit lower grade (still excellent) and has a "China" stamp on the reverse, meaning it was made in China.

I believe the new 2012 Gold Glove Awards Dinner Official Baseballs is almost exactly like this one, with only the year being chance. And it could be even scarcer. It was apparently only used for Award Winner autographs and I suppose given to some attendees (one of these 2012 balls, signed by Matt Wieters, was given away to a very lucky Rawlings Facebook Page Fan - a good reason for all collectors to follow!)

The 2012 Attendees actually received a "non official" souvenir ball this year instead of any form of official leather version. (It's probably not worthy of a place in the revered Museum of Baseballs).

One final note, in my opinion, this 2011 special version is one of the finest baseballs I've owned in regards to ink boldness, stamp placement, stitching and perfection of leather - not a single blemish. It is as close to a perfect baseball as I've seen.

Rawlings 2011 Gold Glove Awards Ceremony Baseball (RAWLINGS CORPORATE) Rawlings 2011 Gold Glove Awards Ceremony Baseball

About the Ball: The official ball made for the Rawlings 2011 Gold Glove Awards Dinner and Ceremony. These were provided to attendees of the Dinner along with some other swag in gift bags. Never made available for sale, they are very limited and will be difficult to find for collectors.

This year's ball have several key changes from previous version. The stamping is in gold, as opposed to black. Laces are the common red found on official game balls, as opposed to customary gold.

This ball also provides the names of all Gold Glove winners from the 2011 season, serperated by league on each side panel (as seen on the two inserted shots.

These ceremony balls are the first given only to guests since 1993 (a custom that started in 1991). Every Gold Glove ball since has been made for regular retail sale.

One final difference, these new baseballs are a step down from the previous versions are far as production quaility and grade of leather. They are China stamped, and more similar to lower professional league baseballs - with raised stitches.]]>Date: 01/26/2012]]>

BLB Rawlings 1992 Gold Glove Awards Dinner Baseball (RAWLINGS CORPORATE) BLB Rawlings 1992 Gold Glove Awards Dinner Baseball

About the Ball: The 2nd of the Rawlings Gold Glove Awards Baseballs - orginally made for the Awards Dinner and Presentation. This appears to be the rarest version.

We've only seen a few unsigned - they were apparently sold at the dinner for guests to use to collect autographs from players attending the event. We do believe that the "1 of 1000" could be legit with this ball, in that there were likely only 1000 produced. This may not be the case for other editions of this ball that claim 1 of 1000.]]>Date: 06/23/2011]]>

Rawlings Gold Glove Baseball Number #5 (RAWLINGS CORPORATE) Rawlings Gold Glove Baseball Number #5

About the Ball: This is probably the 5th installment of the Gold Glove Awards ball - though we cannot confirm which came first, this or the 6th. Since there were multiple presidents listed for some periods at Rawlings, it's not possible to say for sure.

Additionally, this is a different style than the balls we have listed as number 6 and 7. This has a completely blank reverse, where the last two have a blank "league panel" for those who wish to get signatures of GG Award winners, and instead the text is on the reverse sweet spot.

Confusing? Perhaps too much detail.]]>Date: 05/23/2010]]>

Rawlings Gold Glove Baseball #4 1990s (RAWLINGS CORPORATE) Rawlings Gold Glove Baseball #4 1990s

About the ball: Note the old version of the Rawlings logo. This ball predates most of the Gold Glove balls you'll see for sale and on Ebay today. Probably the 4th edition of the Gold Glove Award ball. No text on the back panels - both "sweetspots" are blank.]]>Date: 05/23/2010]]>

1993 Rawlings Gold Glove Award Baseball and Dinner #3 (RAWLINGS CORPORATE) 1993 Rawlings Gold Glove Award Baseball and Dinner #3
About the ball: Apparently, this is the third GG ball made, according to our research. We have yet to find a 1992 GG Awards (and Dinner) ball available unsigned, but we have seen them for sale signed. This 1993 ball appears to be much more common than its two predecessors, and we doubt the "1 of 1000" text means there were only 1000 made. Perhaps in the first run, but we've seen enough of these to think there must have been additional print runs. These can still be found floating around on Ebay every now and then.

Note the typo, the absence of a space after the comma after the "18" from "November 18,1993, New York City."]]>Date: 01/30/2010]]>

2007 Rawlings Gold Glove Award Baseball #7 (RAWLINGS CORPORATE) 2007 Rawlings Gold Glove Award Baseball #7

About the Ball: The current Gold Glove ball available today at Rawlings and from many retailers. It's believed that this version came out in about 2007. This ball has the stamped facsimile signature of Rawlings president Robert M. Parish. The only other change from the previous ball is a swap of the top and lower panel stamping - same logos and text otherwise.

Clearly these are now made for autograph collectors, not for the Awards dinner - if there even is any awards dinner anymore?]]>Date: 01/30/2010]]>

Rawlings Cy Young Award Baseball (RAWLINGS CORPORATE) Rawlings Cy Young Award Baseball

About the ball: Similar concept to the Rawlings Gold Glove Award ball. Used to commemorate the annual MLB Cy Young Award. The difference being the Cy Young Award is presented by the league, while the Rawlings Gold Glove Award is presented by the Rawlings company itself.

This ball is much more obscure than the current Gold Glove balls and may have only been issued for a short time period, while the GG balls are mass produced for collectors to obtain signatures of GG winners.]]>Date: 01/30/2010]]>
